Superior Steel

Someone please help me, I'm sure it's easy 
Steel, Bronze and Brass are all Metal Alloys, the reason why they're superior to it's base metals (elements) is because:
They're a mixture of two elements e.g Steel is Iron and Carbon, Iron in it's raw form (Cast Iron) is brittle and can't withstand much beating. However add the right percentage of Carbon to Iron and you get steel, which is stronger, not brittle and can withstand a fair amount of abuse. However add too much carbon and you lose some of the benefits of adding carbon.
Same with bronze and brass. To put it simply due to the interaction of the two elements and they're bonding modes, the product that is made has properties and qualities which are superior to they're base metals.
Cautionary Warning: In chemistry if you say metal to a chemist, they will immediately think of the metal elements e.g. Iron (Fe), Magnesium (Mg) etc.
So if you want to talk about steel etc. mention Steel, Brass etc. since some questions on here are like What's the difference between Metal and Steel? Some people are answering the question wrong, since they're getting confused between the generic name which joe bloggs uses on the street and the chemistry definition of Metal.
