I removed my old mint green and black bathroom wall tile....even though people said it couldn't be done, not too sure if they were saying this because I'm a woman or not, but anyways. Luckily I found plaster walls underneath (again people said metal sheeting would be behind it not the plaster wall!!) which I managed to keep in good condition. I got most of the glue off the wall but some is still there (very little actually) What should I do to get the rest of the glue off to get a smooth wall? I was thinking of just sanding it with a rough sand paper. I don't want to use electric incase it damages the plaster. Harsh chemicals could also damage the walls. Any other suggestions other then sanding with sand paper??
Kirk is right, just scrape the wall and don't worry about damage to the plaster. When I am done with a job like that, I use a product called Smooth Set. It comes in different setting times, I would use the 40 minute if I were you. I come dry in a bag from home centers for less than $10. Get a drywall knife and drywall pan to go with it. Mix with water until you get a mayonnaise consistency, then cover any holes in the plaster. When it is dry, you can sand this product to get any of the ridges left. You will end up with a smooth wall, better than new.
Prime and paint.....done.
