does anyone have some tips for applying eye shadow?

does anyone have any tips for applying eyeshadow? i've been wearing eyeliner and mascara but i wanna improve my look with some eye shadow...also my eyes are hazel so are there any specific colors i should use?

olive greens are really nice, as well as golds and bronzes. apply a light neutral color all over eye, then with a light brown contour the eye socket to give it depth, and then start building up color on top of that base. lighter on the lid and darker around the end corner of eye
